Why Commission a Work of Art?

There are numerous reasons for you to commission a custom work of art, for example:

•  You'd like a special piece for your art collection that expresses your personal inspirations and ideas
•  You want a very personal expression to enhance your living room
•  You want a unique gift to express your feelings for someone special
•  You want to immortalise a close companion or family member to honor and remember them for generations to come

Whatever you’re looking for, C J Elsip will work in close collaboration with your personal ideas and budget to create a unique work of art to suit your personal specifications

The Commissioning Process

Contact the artist to discuss your requirements, and any questions you may have, and she will arrange an initial meeting or discussion with you to clarify your vision and gather or create any necessary resource images. All your ideas and inspirations are welcome at this stage, and throughout the process.

A quotation and contract will then be drawn up and payments are typically spread over 2-3 installments beginning with an initial deposit to cover the artist’s time and costs for stage one. Everything is fully negotiable, and the artist keeps careful record of time and cost throughout. Final cost may be less than quoted, but will not exceed the agreement, unless additional changes or costs involved are discussed and agreed upon. Initial design work will commence upon receipt of your initial deposit, and you will be provided with a number of compositional and design ideas to choose from. Once you’ve approved the design, work on the final piece commences and a second installment becomes due for materials and time. The artist will often then create two or more pieces according to your specifications so that you have a choice of preference for your final purchase piece. The final installment is then due upon final approval and arrangement for delivery of the work. The finished work of art will be accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity, and you may also have the option to purchase the artists design work, notes, sketches, and/or additional finished pieces should you so wish.
